QUESTION

If the diameters of the sun and the earth are $\dpi{120} \fn_jvn \large 1.4X10^9$ metres and $\dpi{120} \fn_jvn \large 1.275X10^7$ metres respectively. Compare these two.

We have,

$\frac{Dia. of the sun}{Dia . of the earth }=\frac{1.4\times10^9}{1.275\times10^7}=\frac{1.4\times10^2\times10^7}{1.275\times10^7}$

$= \frac{1.4}{1.275}\times100=\frac{1.4}{1.3}\times100=100$

So, the diameter of the sun is about 100 times the diameter of the Earth.
