Given :

frac {1}{8}+frac {1}{7}=frac {7+8}{56}=frac {15}{56}

The required fraction   =frac {5}{14}-frac {15}{56}=frac {20-15}{56}=frac {5}{56}

therefore : : frac {5}{56}  should be added to the sum  frac {7}{8}: : and: : frac {1}{9}  to get frac {5}{14}.
