Adjacent Angles

A pair of angles which have a common vertex, common arm and the non common arm is on the opposite side of the common arm are called adjacent angles.

Two angles are Adjacent when they have a common side and a common vertex (corner point) and don't overlap. Angle ABC is adjacent to angle CBD. Because: they have a common side (line CB) they have a common vertex (point B). adjacent angles

Illustration: In the figure below identify the adjacent angles.

Solution:

  • small angleHEO and small angleOED are adjacent angles as they have a common vertex E, One common Arm OE and non common arms HE and ED are on the either side of OE.
  • small angleEDG and small angleGDI are adjacent angles as they have a common vertex D, One common Arm DG and non common arms ED and DI are on the either side of DG.
  • small angleGDI and small angleIDW are adjacent angles as they have a common vertex D, One common Arm ID and non common arms GD and DW are on the either side of DI.
