Maths / Mensuration / Area of Rectangle
(A Brief Glimpse of ABHYAS Content - Have aLook !!!!)

## Area of Rectangle

The area of a rectangle is calculated in units by multiplying the width (or breadth) by the Length (or Height) of a rectangle.

The formula for the Area of a Rectangle = length x breadth

The area of any rectangle is calculated once its length and width are known.

Illustration:  Find the area of the rectangle whose length is 15 cm and the width is 4 cm?

Solution: Given, Length = 15 cm and Width = 4 cm

Area of a rectangle = Length × Width = 15 × 4  = 60 sq cm

So the area of rectangle = $\dpi{100} \fn_jvn \large 60cm^2$

Illustration: Given that the area of recatngle is 75 sq cm. if one side is 5 cm find the other side.

Solution:  One side of the rectangle = 5cm   ,   Let the other side of the rectangle = y cm

Area of rectangle = Length X breadth   = 5 X y sq cm

According to the question:  Area of rectangle = 75 sq cm

OR   5 X y = 75 sq cm

$\dpi{100} \large y= \frac{75}{5}= 15\; cm$

Hence the other side = 15 cm

Illustration: Find the area of rectangle whose dimensions are given below.

Length = 12.5 cm , Breadth = 50 cm

Solution: Area of the rectangle = Length × Width

= 12.5 X 50

$=\frac{125}{10}\times 50$

$=625 cm^{2}$

Hence,  Area of the rectangle is $625 cm^{2}$.
