The digestive system of humans is well developed. It consists of the gut or alimentary canal, along with many associated digestive glands. The alimentary canal is divided into mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Digestion is a catabolic process, in which complex and large components of food are broken down into their respective simpler substances with the help of various enzymes. The entire system, which performs this process of digestion is known as digestive system.
Mouth : It is consist of different parts like lips , palate teeth, tongue and gums. It is the starting point of digestive system where food is chewed and digested.
Esophagus : It is also called as food pipe. By peristaltic movement food enters the stomach.
Stomach : It is a sac like structure. It receives food from esophagus.
Small Intestine : It is the longest part of our digestive system in which maximum digestion take place.
Large Intestine : It is more wider than that of small intestine. In this part absorption of water take place.
Rectum : It is the swollen end part of the alimentary canal. It store waste material which is excreted through anus.
Anus : Anus is the end point of alimentary canal. Waste material or undigested food excrete from this opening.
