Ovaries in Females

Ovary:

Ovary is an organ found in the female reproductive system that produces hormones as well ovum. These are present in pair and  located alongside the uterus. It also secretes hormones estrogen and progesterone.  The ovary is surrounded by a thin covering of epithelium, encloses the ovarian stroma and is divided into two zones - outer cortex and the inner medulla. The cortex consists of various ovarian follicles in different stages of development. These follicles when matures then they are called as graffian follicles. After the release of ovum these follicle convert into gland called as corpus luteum.  Corpus luteum secrete hormone progesterone. Progesterone prepares the endometrium for the potential of pregnancy whereas estrogen involves in development of secondary sexual characters in females.
