Colonial powers, lacking sufficient resources within their own territories, sought to extract and exploit the abundant resources of colonies to fuel their industrial economies and enhance their global dominance. This exploitation often led to the depletion and degradation of natural resources in colonized regions, as indigenous populations were subjected to forced labor and environmental degradation.
