Suppose a person covers certain distance at the speed x Km/hr and then covers an equal distance at speed of y Km/hr. Then the average speed during the whole journey is given by

Proof: Let the distance traveled be m km

Time taken to cover the distance of m Kms at the speed of x Km/Hr

Time_1=frac{Distance}{Speed}= frac{m}{x};hr

Time taken to cover the distance of m Kms at the speed of y Km/Hr
