Translocation in Plants

Transport of food and other substances

Translocation is the transport or movement of soluble products (sugar) of photosynthesis from leaves to other parts of the plant is termed as ‘translocation.’

Translocation

It is the process of  transport of soluble substances like sucrose, hormones and minerals from the site of synthesis i.e. from leaves or roots to the site of utilization. A special type of complex permanent tissue known as phloem act as a pipeline for translocation of food .Translocation of substances occur with the help energy from ATP. It is a bidirectional process i.e translocation takes place both in upward and downward directions.
