Transportation Meaning

Transportation is the movement of substances from one location to another in an organism.

Transportation is a life process in which a substance absorbed or made in one part of the body of an organism is carried to other parts of its body through various means.

  • In unicellular organisms and in many simple multicellular organisms transportation occur through the processes like osmosis and diffusion.

  • In complex organisms like plants and animals transportation takes place with the help of transport systems.

  • In plants the transport system is known as vascular system whereas in animals transport system is known as circulatory system.

  • In unicellular organisms, transportation is easy. The simple processes like diffusion and osmosis can take care of the movement of various substances. In multicellular organisms different parts of the body perform different functions but they have to stay connected to receive required substances and eliminate unwanted materials from the body. They cannot depend or processes like diffusion and osmosis alone as it would take a lot of time. In higher organisms, this is done by a specialized transport system called the ‘vascular system’.

Transportation is a life process through which different substances like food , gases, minerals, hormones etc. get transported from one part of the body to other of an organism. This process helps in the proper distribution of material among the cells of the body. Different organisms have different type of transport systems:
