Concept Explanation

Parathyroid Gland

Parathyroid glands: These are two pairs of small glands buried in the thyroid gland. They secrete parathormone and calcitonin , which increases the level of calcium in the blood by taking out calcium from the bones. A certain amount of calcium in the blood is essential for functions such as muscular activity and blood clotting. It also controls the amount of phosphorus in our body.

Decrease in the level of  production of parathormone is called as hypoparathroidism. This can occur due to the injury to the parathyroid gland and can also occur due some genetic conditions. In this condition, the metabolic rate of the body decreases which results in less breakdown of fats therefore  increase in the weight. It is treated medically with vitamin D analogues and oral calcium supplements.A sudden drop can cause an individual to feel weird, foggy like and the brain not functioning accurately.

Hyperparathyroidism occurs when our thyroid gland produces too much of parathyroid hormone  can make a person depressed, irritable, insomnia, memory loss, lack of energy and worried are the most common symptoms in patients with parathyroid disease.
