In statement sum we are given a statement. We have to analyse the statement and then take appropriate action.
Following steps are required to solve the statement
1. Read the statement carefully
2. Find the values that are given
3. Find the quantity which is required
4. Then perform the process to reach the desired result.

Reena had 3 story books and Seema had 4 story books. How many story books they have in total?

So, No. of story books Reena had = 3
No. of story books Seema had = 4
3. We will find the quantity which is required
In the question it is asked that

To Find No.of story books in total
We will perform addition as we are supposed to find the no. of story books in total
3 + 4 = ?
We will perform the required operation
On solving we get
Hence the story books in total are 7.
