Saturated and Unsaturated Solution

Types of Solutions: It is possible to dissolve different amounts of a solute in a given quantity of a solvent to obtain solutions of different concentrations. Solutions can be divided into two classes depending upon the amounts of solute dissolved in a given amount of solvent:

  • Saturated solution: a solution in which no more amount of solute can be dissolved at a given temperature is called a saturated solution.
  • Unsaturated solution: An unsaturated solution is one in which more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature. For example, a solution of sugar in water in which more sugar can be dissolved at a given temperature is an unsaturated solution.
