Movement In Animals

The body structure of an animal determines the kind of movement they exhibit. All animals have structures that help them survive in their environment.Organism posses different type of skeletons to protect there bodies : Endoskeleton and Exoskeleton.

The hard part which is the internal support of the structure is called an endoskeleton and the hard part present outside the body which protects the soft tissues and muscles is called as exoskeleton.

Based on the presence or absence of the backbone (vertebral column), animals are divided into two groups:

Vertebrates: Animals that have a backbone are called vertebrates. There body structure is made up of bones. For example, fish, frog, lizard, horse, and birds.

Invertebrates : Animals that do not have a backbone are called invertebrates. For example, earthworm, snail, cockroach, etc

All animals do not bones. Bones are present in animals with backbone that is vertebrates

  • Earthworm have body made up of many rings of muscles. These muscles form there structure and help in movement of the body.
  • The body of snail is consist of  hard exoskeleton. They have muscular foot that help them in locomotion.
  • The body of a cockroach is made up of muscles that help in movement of legs. The exoskeleton of cockroach is made up of chitin.
  • Sharks have backbone but their bodies do not have any bones. Its body is made up of cartilage.
  • Crabs, insects and spiders also do not  have bones. Their bodies are covered and protected by hand covering.
  • Jelly fishes, leeches and worms have neither bones nor hard structure.
  • Molluscs have exoskeleton that is made up of calcium.
  •
