Pinhole Camera
This is a device which forms a photograph like image of a stationary bright object on a screen. A pinhole camera is a simple device that works on the principle of rectilinear propagation of light. It shows that light travels in a straight line.
A pinhole camera is just a box with a very tiny hole on one of its sides and a paper or glass on the opposite side that acts as a screen. The box is blacked from inside so that any light which falls on the walls is absorbed. When an object is placed in front of a pinhole the light falls on the hole, and an inverted image is formed on the side opposite to the hole.
To take a photograph using a pinhole camera the box is covered with a black cloth and the paper is replaced with a photographic film. The object is placed in front of the pinhole. and the cloth is removed only from the side of the pinhole. The film gets exposed which can be further developed and printed in a studio.
The size of the image formed depend upon the distance of the object from the pinhole and the distance of the screen and the pinhole.
When the object is brought closer to the pinhole a larger image is formed.
