Baji Rao I

Baji Rao I (1720-1740 CE): Baji Rao I (18 August 1700 – 28 April 1740), born as Visaji, also known as Bajirao Ballal, was the 7th Peshwa (Prime Minister) of the Maratha empire. In his 20-year military career, he never lost a battle and is widely considered as one of the best Indian cavalry generals. His relationship with his half-Muslim wife Mastani a subject of controversy, has been adapted in Indian novels and cinema.

The second Peshwa, Baji Rao I, was determined to take Maratha glory to greater heights. Under him the Marathas took control of Gujarat, raided Bengal, and overran Malwa army near Delhi in 1737 CE. They also defeated the Nizam of Hyderabad. Asaf Jah was forced to enter into a treaty with the Marathas. Baji Rao, however, did not occupy the throne
