Two Line of Symmetry :
A figure in which two lines divide it into two identical parts such that when folded along that line one part of the figure superimposes the other part is said two have two lines of symmetry. These two Lines of Symmetry can be a combination of Vertical, diagonal or Horizontal Lines. Letters such as H and X also have two lines of Symmetry. An hourglass is also an example of Two Lines of Symmetry. A rectangle does not have a diagonal line of symmetry where as a square has a diagonal line of symmetry also.
Activity:
Let us perform a activity to show that a rectangle has two line of symmetry.
Step 1: let us take a rectangular sheet of paper (like a postcard).
Step 2: Fold it once length-wise,so that half fits exactly over the other half . Clearly,this fold line is the line of symmetry .
Step 3: Now,open it up and again fold it once breadth - wise , in the same way . The second fold line is also a line of symmetry .
From this activity we can say that a rectangle shows has two lines of symmetry .
Each of the following letters from English alphabet has two lines of symmetry . They are symmetrical about the dotted lines.
