Quadrilateral Symmetry

Now let us discuss the symmetry for different four sided figures that is quadrilaterals.

Parallelogram:

It is a four sided figure in which the opposite pair of sides are equal and parallel to each other,

Symmetry of Parallelogram:

A parallelogram does not have any line along which it is symmetrical. Thus the parallelogram has no line of symmetry.

Rhombus:

It is a four sided figure in which the opposite pair of sides are parallel to each other. Also all the four sides are equal. The diagonals of a rhombus bisect each other at right angles.

Symmetry of Rhombus:

A rhombus has two lines of symmetry. The rhombus is symmetrical along the diagonals.

Rectangle:

It is a four sided figure in which the opposite pair of sides are parallel and equal to each other. Also all the four angles are right angles.

Symmetry of Rectangle:

A rectangle has two lines of symmetry. It is symmetrical along the two lines segments formed by joining the mid points of opposite sides.

Isosceles Trapezium:

A trapezium is a four sided figure in which one pair of opposite sides is parallel to each other, but the other pair of opposite sides is not parallel

Isosceles trapezium is a special type of trapezium in which the not parallel pair of sides are equal.

Symmetry for Isosceles Trapezium:

It has only one line of symmetry along the line joining the mid points of two parallel sides .

Kite:

It is a four sided figure in which the adjacent pair of sides is equal and the diagonal intersect at right angles.

Symmetry of Kite:

It has only one line of symmetry along the diagonal which is has vertex common to the vertices  which are common to the equal sides.

Arrow Head:

It is a four sided figure in which the adjacent pair of sides is equal also it is a concave quadrilateral.

Symmetry of Arrow Head:

An arrow head has only one line of symmetry along the diagonal which is has vertex common to the vertices  which are common to the equal sides, same as in the case of Kite.
