Symmetry
Symmetrical figure is the one where a part of the figure overlaps the other part. It is a feature where something is the same on both sides of an axis or a line. An example in the case of a circle the diameter acts as the axis or a line along which it is the same on both sides. When a circle is folded along the diameter one part of the circle will exactly overlap the other part.
In our day-to-day life we see many structures, objects, figures etc. which are so evenly balanced that one part can superimpose the other part, such figure are called symmetrical figure..
Now look at the following pictures :
we observe that for each figure the one half on one side of the dotted line i.e., the two halves are mirror images of each other . If we place a mirror on the dotted line then the image of one side of figure is exactly same as the figure on the other side of the dotted line i.e., each figure is divided into two identical parts about the dotted line . When we fold these figures along the dotted line , one half of the figure would fit exactly over the other half . The dotted line is known as the line of symmetry.
