Equivalent Ratios

The ratios which are the same in the simplest form are called equivalent ratios. When the given ratios are equal, then these ratios are called as equivalent ratios. Equivalent ratios can be obtained by multiplying and dividing the numerator and denominator with the same number.

Illustration: Check weather 9 : 24 , 6 : 16  and 12 : 32 are equivalent ratios

Solution: we will analyse the ratios one by one:

As 9 and 24 has a common factor as 3, So the simplest form of  9 : 24 is 3 : 8

Similarly  6 and 16 has a common factor as 2, So the simplest form of  6 : 16 is 3 : 8

and 12 and 32 has a common factor as 4, So the simplest form of  12 : 32 is 3 : 8

As the simplest form is the same for all they are an example of equivalent ratios.
