Spreading of Communicable Disease Through Air

Spreading of Communicable Disease through the air we breathe: Microorganisms that cause common cold, tuberculosis, pneumonia, etc., spread through the air we breathe. For example, when a person suffering from common cold sneezes or coughs, fine droplets of moisture carrying germs are released in the air. When a healthy person breathes such air, the germs or pthogens enter his/her body and infect the person. The pathogens ride on either dust particles or small respiratroy droplets and can stay suspended in air and are capable of traveling distances on air currents. For this reason, we should keep our hand or handkerchief on our mouth and nose while coughing and sneezing.

Based on the different type of causitive agents  air borne diseases can be of of following types:

  • Air borne bacterial diseases: The causitive agent is bacetria.Different type of bacetrial diseases are cholera, diptheria, whooping cough, meningitis, tetnus, gonorrhea ans syphilis etc.
  • Air borne viral diseases:The causitive agent is virus.Different type of viral diseases are herper simplex, Influenza, Ebola, SARS, Yellow fever, Rabies, measles, hepatitis etc.
  • Air borne fungal  diseases: These disease is caused by fungi . Some of them are Aspergillosis, Coccidioidomycosis, Ringworm, Vaginal yeast infection etc.
