Transitive Verbs

Verbs : These are words that refer to an action or a state of being. A sentence must have a verb or else it is incomplete.

Transitive verbs: Words that require an object to complete the action are called transitive verbs. All transitive verbs have a direct object to which an action is passed on in the sentence. These verbs are said to be used transitively.

Ditransitive verbs : - Ditransitive verbs require two objects—a direct and indirect object. An indirect object is a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase that signals what or who receives the direct object.

For example:

"I'm lending John the book,"

“John” is the indirect object, and the book is the “direct object,” as John is the one receiving the item.

In the Question:-

My dog___ carrots off the floor. .

 In this Question the correct verb that can be used is Ate.The verb "Eat" requires an object ("floor"). “carrot” is the indirect object, and the floor is the “direct object,” as dog has eaten carrot from floor. Ate is used instead of eat as action is already completed in past.

Thus, the correct option is D, which is Ate.
