Indian Standard Time (IST)There is atime lag (period of time) of almost two hours between Gujarat in the West and Arunachal Pradesh in the East. Hence, time along the Standard Meridian of India (82° 30’ E) passing through Mirzapur (in Uttar Pradesh) is taken as the standard time for the whole country. For convenience, Indian Standard Time (IST) is followed as a standard time. The latitudinal extend influences the duration of day and night as one moves from South to North.Indian Standard Time (IST): This is the local time of the longitude 82° 30’ E , taken as the time for the whole of India. This is five and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
