Clean Food and Water

Clean Food and Water: Fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed before cooking or eating. Cooked food should be kept in clean, covered utensils. We should treat water to make it safe for drinking.

Clean food:

  • Wash your hands throughly before handling the food.
  • Cook food throughly. Make sure that meats, seafood and vegetables are completely cooked.
  • Keep food in refrigerator. It is important because bacteria starts to enter food two hours after it is prepared .
  • Use safe water and raw material while preparing food.
  • Clean water:

  • Boiling: Boiling of the water kills most of the disease causing microbes  which reduces the risk of infection. 
  • Use of iodine solution, tablets and crystals: Iodine has the ability to kill the viruses and bacteria. They are light weight and easy to use but not suitable for pregnant women.  
  • Use of chlorine drops: It has the abilty to kill the bacteria in the water. Excess amount of chlorine can be poisnous. 
  • Use of water filters: The filters help to remove the bacteria. The filters need to be cleaned after  use.
