Concentration of Solution Percentage by Volume

Concept Explanation

Concentration of Solution Percentage by Volume

 The concentration or strength of a solution depends on how much solute is dissolved in it. The amount of solute dissolved in a unit quantity (volume or mass) of a solution is known as the concentration or strength of the solution. There are various methods to express the concentration of a solution.

  • Expressing the concentration of a solution :-
  • The methods by which the concentration of a solution  can be expressed are :-

  • Mass by Mass percentage  of a solution :-
  •                                      frac{Mass of solute}{Mass of solution};X: 100

  • Mass by volume percentage of a solution :-
  •                                   frac{Mass of solute}{Volume of solution};X: 100

    Example :-

    Question :-  A solution contains 50 g of common salt in 450 g of water. Calculate the concentration of the solution.

    Solution:  Concentration of solution :-

                                                           frac{Mass of solute}{Mass of solution};X: 100

    Mass of common salt(solute) = 50 g

    Mass of water = 450 g

    Mass of Solution = 50 + 450 = 500 g

    Concentration of solution ;=:frac{50}{500}:X: 100:=: 10%
