Omission Supplying Missing Word

Omission Supplying Missing Word :  In this type of exercise one word, most often a grammar word is omitted in each line of the passage against which a blank is given. Students are required to find the location from where the word has been omitted and supply the missing word.

Most often the words that are omitted are grammar words such as a helping verb, a determiner, a verb, a conjunction, a preposition etc.

Remember : -

  • Read the paragraph thoroughly.
  • Mark each place where you think a word is missing.
  • Using trial and error method supply the missing word such that the passage is completed in a meaningful and appropriate way.
  • The missing word is most often a noun, pronoun, adjective, adverb, helping verb, verb, preposition, conjunction, determiner or modal. So look for these words carefully.
  • If the missing word is a verb, make sure that you use the correct tense form of it.
  • In your answer you must write three words - one word before and one word after the missing word such that the missing word is in the middle. Remember to underline or highlight the word that forms the answer.
  • Question : In the passage given below one word has been omitted in each line. Write the missing word along with the word that comes before and the word that comes after it in your answer sheet against the correct question number. Ensure that the word that forms your answer is underlined. The first one is done as an example.
