Volume of Spherical Shell

The volume V of a spherical shell whose outer and inner radii are R and r respectively is given by

V=frac{4}{3}pileft ( R^{3}-r^{3} right ) cubic units

Illustration: Determine the volume of a spherical shell which has an inner radius of 6 cm and an outer radius of 24 cm.

Solution: The volume of a spherical shell which has an inner radius of r cm and an outer radius of R cm is given by

               V=frac{4}{3}pileft ( R^{3}-r^{3} right )

Here, r = 6 cm and R = 24 cm

So, V=frac{4}{3}pileft ( (24)^{3}-(6)^{3} right )

     V=frac{4}{3}pileft ( 13824-216 right )

   V=frac{4}{3}pileft ( 13608right )

   V=frac{4}{3}times frac{22}{7}times 13608

   V=57024;cm^{3}
