Fifth Five Year Plan

Fifth Five Year Plan (1974-1979): The fifth plan aimed at the removal of poverty and the attainment of self-reliance. A total outlay of Rs. 393-2 billion was allocated, and actual expenditures totalled Rs. 394.2 billion. Stress was laid on employment, the reduction of poverty, and justice. The plan also focused on swadeshi (self-reliance) with respect to agricultural production and defence. In 1978, the newly elected Morarji Desai government rejected the plan
