Anglo-Mysore Wars

First Anglo-Mysore Way (1767-69 AD)

Hyder Ali defeated the British. Treaty of Madras was signed.

  • As a result of the aggressive policy of the British, in this war, Hyder Ali formed a joint military front against the British by signing a treaty with the Marathas and the Nizams.
  • The Hyder Ali-led front invaded the British friendly state of Karnataka but was defeated in 1767 AD (Hyde and Nizam) at Tiruvannamalai, Sangam.
  • Hyder invaded Mangalore and defeated the trained English forces from Bombay and pushed them back to Madras.
