Mir Qasim

Mir Qasim (1760-1765 AD)

  • Mir Oasim was the most worthy of the successors of Alivardi who suffered an invasion of Bihar (1760-61 AD) by the Mughal emperor Shah Alam soon after his accession. The military of the Company defeated the Emperor.
  • Mir Qasim soon shifted his capital from Murshidabad to Munger to avoid the British intervention.
  • Mir Oasim has taken several measures to eliminate corruption and increase income in revenue administration such as confiscation of money of high-wealth people, reduction in government spending, retrenchment of employees, recovery of arrears from new landlords etc.
