Siraj-ud-daula (1756-57 AD)

  • After Alivardi, his grandson Siraj-ud-daula became the Nawab of Bengal on 10 April 1756.
  • Opponents of Siraj-ud-aula's throne were Nawab Shaukatjang (cousin) of Purnia, Siraj's aunt Ghasiti Begum and his commander Mirzafar (son-in-law of Alivardi).
  • Siraj-ud-daula made aunt Ghasiti Begum captive and appointed Meeramdan in place of General Mirzafar Siraj made a Kashmiri youth named Mohan Lal extremely powerful.
  • In 1756 AD Siraj left for the suppression of Shaukatjung on the full moon. In October 1756, in the 'Battle of Manihari' Siraj defeated Shaukat and killed him.
  • In 1756, Siraj-ud-daulah was approved for rule over Bengal, Bihar and Orissa by a decree (Farmaan) from the Mughal ruler.
