Mughal Administrative System

  • Centralized bureaucracy was prominent in the Mughal system of governance. The Mughal kingship theory was also based on Sharia. The Mughals did not even accept nominal subjugation of the Caliph.
  • There was a Council of Ministers to help the King in administration, but he was not obliged to follow its advice. All the powers were vested in the emperor. The king's orders were the law.
  • Akbar declared Mazhar in 1579 AD and declared the emperor as the final arbiter of Islamic law.
