Concept Explanation

Humayun

Humayun (1530-15 10 AD and 1555-1656 AD)

Nasir ad-din Muhammad Humayun was the second Mughal Emperor who ruled present day Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of northern India from 1530-1540 and again from 1555-1556. Like his father, Babur,he lost his kingdom early, but with Persian aid, he eventually regained an even larger one.

Though a good warrior, yet Humayun was indolent and pleasure seeking. Also, his leniency in dealing with his rebellious brothers aided in depriving him of his throne and he was forced to run for his life. Though forced to flee to Afghanistan and later to Persia after defeat at the hands of Sher Shah Suri, Humayun finally made his way back to the throne of Delhi after defeating Sher Shah's heir Sikander Suri in Sirhind. Finally, on 23 July 1555 Humayun, once again, sat on Babur's throne in Delhi.
