Mughal Painting

  • A painter named 'Bihzad' is mentioned in 'Tujukh-e-Babari'. He was a famous Persian painter and was called 'Rafael of the East'.
  • Humayun played an important role in introducing Mughal painting Humayun received the services of two Persian painters 'Mir Sayyed Ali' and 'Abdussamad'.
  • The earliest and important portrait collection of Mughal painting was compiled in Hamzanama (Dastane Amir Hamza or Hamzanama). It has a collection of 1200 pictures. There was mention of the heroic actions of Hamza, the uncle of Prophet Muhammed. It was completed during the period of Akbar.
  • Mulla Alauddin Qazvini, in his text 'Nafaisal Masir', described Hamzanama as the 'Brain of Humayun'.
