Jat

  • The Jats are a caste of cultivators who lived in the adjoining areas of Delhi, Agra and Mathura.
  • The Jat peasants around Mathura revolted in 1669 AD and 1688 AD under the leadership of their Jat landlords which were suppressed.
  • After the death of Aurangzeb, the Jats caused unrest around Delhi.
  • The Jat-Rebellion was originally a peasant-uprising led by the zamindars, which soon limited itself to plunder.
  • The poor, rich, Jagirdars, farmers, Hindus and Muslims all became victims of the Jats.
