Shivaji (1627-1680 AD)

  • On 20 April 1627 AD, Shivaji was born in the Fort of Shivner near Poona to Shahji Bhonsle and Jijabai.
  • Shivaji's personality had the greatest impact of his mother Jijabai and mentor and teacher Dada Konadev. His guru's name was Samarth Ramdas.
  • Shivaji adopted the Hindu Pad Padshahi, took a vow to protect cows and Brahmins and assumed the title of 'Hindutva-Dharmodharak'.
  • Shivaji's main objective was to establish an independent state in Maharashtra (South India) by amassing the scattered power of the Marathas.
  • In 1643 AD, Shivaji first established authority over the Fort of Singhgarh in Bijapur and the Toran in 1646 AD.
