Iltutmish

lltutmish (1210 AD to 1236 AD)

Aram Shah succeeded Aibak but was faced by a rebellious ltutmish in battle. Aram was beaten in the battle and Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, another ex-slave and an outstanding ruler of Turkey ancestry who was married to Aibak's daughter, succeeded him as Sultan of Delhi. What happened with Aram Shah after the battle is a subject of controversy. Some historians say that he died, while others remained mum on the subject.

  • Qutbuddin's son-in-law and successor Iltutmish was an Ilibari Turk.
  • Iltutmish was the de facto founder of the Delhi Sultanate At the time of the death of Qutubuddin he was the Subedar (Governor) of Badayun.
  • Muhammed Ghori freed him from slavery due to the extraordinary merit of llutamish at the time of the Khokhar Rebellion in 1206 AD.
