Sayyid Dymasty

Sayyid Dynasty (1414-1451 AD)

  • In 1414 AD Khizr Khan laid the foundation of the Sayyid Dynasty.
  • Khizr Khan supported the Mongol invader Timur and in retum for his services, Timur entrusted him with the subdivisions of Lahore, Multan and Dipalpur.
  • As Timur returned from India, Khizr Khan started rule by declaring himself as Viceroy of Timur in northwester India.
  • Khizr Khan did not hold the title of Sultan but was satisfied with the title of Rayat-e-Ala. He inscribed the names of Tughlaq rulers on his coins.
