The Indian Parliament

The Union Legislature - The Parliament:

Parliament is the supreme legislative body of India. The Indian Parliament comprises the President and the two Houses - Lok Sabha (House of the People) and Rajya Sabha (Council of States). The President has the power to summon and prorogue either House of Parliament or to dissolve Lok Sabha

  • The constitution, structure and powers of Parliament are described in Articles 79 to 122 under Chapter-2 of the part V of the Constitution.
  • Article 79 "There shall be a Parliament for the Union consisting of the President and two Houses, namely (i) Rajya Sabha and (ii) Lok Sabha".
