Passive Voice For Transitive Verbs

Conversion of Active Voice Sentence into Passive Voice For Transitive Verbs:

Rule used to identify that the sentence is in Active Voice form with Transitive Verb is:

Subject +  First form of Verb (s/es) +  Object

When complex transitive verbs are changed from active to passive, the object becomes the subject of the passive verb and the complement follows the verb:

For Example:

  • Everyone considers Tom the better player.(active)
  •  Here,'everyone' is subject, 'consider' is the first form of the verb and " Tom the better player"  is an object.

While converting into Passive Voice the rule will be :

            subject  +  is/am/are  +  Third form of verb  + by +  object.

If we analyse the example of active voice. we identify that there are two objects.

    (I)    Tom         (II)  the better player.

If we consider 'Tom' is an object. The object 'Tom' will become subject and the subject 'everyone' will become an object.According to the form  of tense ,helping verb will be used. Then the sentence will be written as

  •  Tom is considered the better player by everyone.(passive) .
  • If we consider 'the better player' is an object. The object 'the better player' will become subject and the subject 'everyone' will become object. Accoding to the form of tense, helping verb will be changed. Then ,the sentence  will be written as:

  •   The better player is considered to be Tom by everyone.(passive)
