Major Dams of Haryana

The major dams of Haryana are as follows:

Pathrala Dam

  • This dam was built in 1875 - 76. It is constructed on Somb river. It is located near Dadupur village of Yamunanagar district.
  • The length of this is 460 m and height is 34 m.
  • Ottu Dam

  • This dam is built on the Ghaggar - Hakra river in Haryana. It is about 8 miles from Sirsa. It is also known as Ottu Weir and Ottu Head.
  • The Ottu dam was constructed in 1896 by the joint effort of the Princely State of Bikaner and British Government.
  • It creates a large water reservoir out of the formerly - small Dhanur lake, located ncar the village of Ottu in Sirsa district.
  • It provide water to two Ghaggar canals (the Northern Ghaggar Canal and the Southern Ghaggar Canal) that provide water to Northern Rajasthan state for irrigation.
  • In 2002, a new tourist complex was inaugurated at the barrage and it was given the honourary name of Chaudhary Devi Lal Weir to commemorate the former Chief Minister of Haryana, Chaudhary Devi Lal.
  • The Dhanur lake reservoir is now often referred to simply as the Outt Reservoir.
  • Anangpur Dam

  • Anangpur dam is located near Anangpur village in the district of Faridabad. It is also known as Gravity Dam.
  • This dam was constructed by King Anangpal of Tomar Dynasty in 8th century. It is an excellent example of Indian Hydraulic Engineering
  • Kaushalya Dam

  • Kaushalya dam is constructed on Kaushalya river which is a tributary of Ghaggar Hakra river.
  • This dam is 700 m in length and 34 m in height. Its construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2012.
  • A sum of Rs. 118 crore was spent on the construction of this dam. It is located at Pinjore in the district of Panchkula.
