Some Revolts Against East India Company

Chhachhrauli Revolt:

Chhachhrauli is little town in the state of Haryana near Karnal. It was once the capital of one of the India's 562 princely states. These forts and palaces now have various government offices in them. The Raja of Kalsia built a big, sprawling fort for himself, which comprised of a throne room, a khazana (treasury) and reception. rooms. The whole of the fort was painted with murals. The Kalsia family donated the fort to the town of Chhachhrauli for its own use in 1940.

  • The ruler of the Princely State of Chhachhrauli was Karora Singhia Misl, Baghel Singh. This Princely State was spread over 63 sq km in Ambala region.
  • After the death of Baghel Singh in the year 1809 AD, there was no successor. Thus, the
  • king of the Princely state of Kalsia and the eldest Chief of the Karora Singhia Misl, Jodh Singh, took over his reign.
  • Baghel Singh's widow 'Rani Ramkaur sought the assistance of thec British to remove Jodh Singh.
  • The British assisted Rani Ramkaur and Chhachhrauli was attacked by the English army on the orders of David Octer Loni, the English Resident of Delhi.
  • On arrival of the British army, Jodh Singh retreated and the Princely State of Chhachhrauli was given to Rani Ramkaur.
  • Rani Ramkaur was not a good ruler, hence, in 1818 AD, Jodh Singh again, captured Chhachhrauli.
  • British army attacked Chhachhrauli under the leadership of Brigadier General Arnold. Jodh Singh revolted against the British army along with the people of Chhachhrauli, but was defeated and the Princely State of Chhachhrauli was merged into the British kingdom.
  • Revolt of Rania

  • In 1810 AD. Jabit Khan, the ruler of the Princely State of Rania in Hisar district accepted the subjugation of the British. The British returned him the Princely States of Rania and Sirsa, but he defied the Company's orders.
  • As a result, in the war of Rania, the Company defeated Jabit Khan in 1818 AD and took over the Princely State off Hisar under British rule.
