Gallantry Awardees from Haryana

The Government of India provides gallantry awards to the military personnel of the state in different categories. The categories are as follows:

Param Vir Chakra Awardees

  • It is India's largest military award. Major Hoshiar Singh (later also became the Brigadier) was awarded Param Vir Chakra in 1972 by the Government of India for his bravery and exceptional leadership.
  • He was born in the year 1936 in Sisana village of Sonipat district.
  • He is the only Param Vir Chakra awardee of Haryana.

  • This is the third highest military award in the country.
  • The people of Haryana who received this award are Roop Chand (Sonipat district, Kharkhoda village) in 1948, Subedar Shivochand Ram (Hisar district, Kuleri village) in the year 1945 and Havildar Lakhmi Chand (Bhiwani district, Dhanana village) posthumously, in 1967.
