Degree of a Polynomial

In a polynomial expression in one variable, the highest value of the exponent is called its degree of a polynomial.

Illustration: Find the degree of the polynomial ;;2x;+;3

Solution: It is a polynomial in x of degree 1.

Illustration: Find the degree of the polynomial

;2x^{2};-;3x;+frac{7}{5}

Solution: It is a polynomial in x of degree 2.

Illustration: Find the degree of the polynomial

 frac{2}{3}a^{3};-;frac{7}{2}a^{2};+;4 

Solution: It is a polynomial in a of degree 3.
