Festivals of Sikhs In Haryana

The most important festivals of Sikhs Community are as follows:

Baisakhi

  • It is a spring harvest festival usually celebrated on 13th or 14th April on the Ist day of month of Baisakh. In Punjab, the farmers celebrate Baisakhi as the harvest of Rabi crops as well as pay tribute to the Goddess Lakshmi for a good harvest.
  • On this day (13th April, 1699), the 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of Khalsa Panth, which seeks to baptise Sikh warriors to defend their religious freedom.
  • It is celebrated with joy and fervour in the Pinjore region of Panchkula district. Fairs are also organised in Panchkula, on the occasion of Baisakhi.
  • Martyrdom Day of Guru Arjun Dev

  • He was appointed as the Sikh Guru in 1581 after the death of his father and killed in 1606.
  • Guru Arjun Dev, the 5th Guru of Sikhs was the first of the two gurus to be martyred in Sikh faith.
  • Martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Dev is celebrated on the 14th day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyestha, as a tribute every year.
  • Guru Nanak Jayanti (Gurpurab)

  • It is celebrated on the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak. Fie was the founder of Sikh religion.
  • It is celebrated on the full Moon Day of the month of Kartik (October - November). It is one of the most sacred festivals of Sikhism.
