Linking Verbs

Verbs that join the subject and the subject complement in a sentence are called linking verbs.

Example: look, seem, appear, sound, taste etc.

Example : a. The children seem happy

                  b. You are a singer.

In the above sentences the verbs seem and are link or connect the subject the children and you with the complements happy and singer, respectively.

Note: Verbs like seem, appear, sound, smell etc. can also be used as transitive verbs.
