Omissions in the Use of Pronouns:
Pronoun are those words that can replace a noun in a sentence.
1. Usage of Reflexive Pronoun: The reflexive pronouns (ending in-self) are used when the action denoted by the verb is directed toward the thing referred to by the subject. Some examples are : Myself (Singular), Yourself (Singular), Yourselves (Plural) and Ourselves (Plural)
Example: Can you do it, without taking my help. (Incorrect)
Can you do it yourself, without taking my help (Correct)
2. If two words are joined by ‘and’ one being a human and other being an animal /non living thing, a relative pronoun ‘that’ is used.
Example: The woman and her dog I saw yesterday have been kidnapped. (Incorrect)The woman and her dog that I saw yesterday have been kidnapped. (Correct)
3. WHO Vs WHOM Vs THAT Relative pronoun : Relative pronoun ‘ whom’ is used to replace a human object of the sentence, while ‘who’ is used to replace subject of the sentence.
Example: The boy came here is a very good singer. (Incorrect)
The boy who came here is a very good singer.(‘ Who ‘ has been used for the boy which is the subject of the sentence).
4. When two subjects joined by As well as, Together with, Along with, And not, In addition to, Like, Unlike, With, Rather than , Except, No less than, Nothing but etc. takes helping verb and possessive pronoun as per first subject.
Example: Meena as well as her children has returned to home. (Incorrect)
Meena as well as her children has returned to her home. (Correct)
