AGNI: It is a surface-to-surface IRBM, can carry payload of 500-1,000 kg up to the range of 1,000- 2,500 km.
Agni-I: First version of Agni Technology Demonstrator, IRBM; range 700- 8oo km; payload 1,000 kg. It bridges the gap between Prithvi and Agni- II. Its first stage uses solid and second stage uses liquid propulsion,
Agni- II: Tested for the first time in 1999; range 2.000-2,500 km with payload capacity of 1,000 kg. It uses solid propulsion in both the stages. The per-launch preparation time is less than that of Agar I.
Agni- II: Three stage, surface- based, solid and liquid- propellant ballistic missile. Its range is believed to be approx. 5000 km which would make is capable of striking Beijing.
There will not be an Agni-IV missile, with DRDO leapfrogging from intermediate range Agni-III to a standard ICBM possibly.
Agni-V: It is Intercontinental Ballistic Missile with 5,000 km range.
