Indian Council Act
Indian Council Act, 1861 AD
In 1861, the Indian Council Act was passed, the major provisions of which were as follows.
(a) The Viceroy's Executive Council was expanded in which the number of members of the council was increased from 4 to 5 (Law Expert) and now came to be known as Imperial Legislative Council.
(b) The number of additional members in the Viceroy's Executive Council was increased from 6 to 12 whose main task was to make laws (It was called Legislative Council at the time when the additional members join the Executive meeting to make laws.) At least half of these members (non-government) were nominated by the Viceroy. It's term was of two years.
