Natural Number Whole Number and Integers

Natural Numbers:

We know that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,.... are counting numbers or natural numbers such that 1 is the first natural number and there is no last natural number .The collection of all natural numbers is denoted by N and is written as

       N = [ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,.....,124]

Whole Numbers:

If we include 0 in the collection of all natural numbers then we will  get 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5..... these numbers are called whole numbers. This new collection of whole numbers is denoted by W and is written as

       W = [ 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ....., 124,.....]

To represent whole numbers on the number line, we draw a line and mark a point O on it as shown in fig. Now, set off equal distances on the right side of the point O and label the points of division as 1,2, 3, 4, 5,.....The point O is labelled as 0.
